The Social Security wage base increases to $118,500.00 in 2016 up $1,500.00. The tax imposed on the employer and employee each is 6.2% for social security (note I used the term tax because all the money the government takes in goes to the general fund) and 1.45% for Medicare. If you make over $200,000.00 your pay a contribution (call a surcharge but really a tax) on the excess at 1.45%.
